Workshop Request for Proposals

Submit a Proposal

A group of students practices partnered lifts during a dance workshop.

The Educational Theatre Association is thrilled to return to in-person events in 2022 and invites teaching artists and theatre educators to submit a proposal to present workshops at the International Thespian Festival (ITF) and/or the Theatre Education Conference. Limited content will be provided virtually for attendees who are unable to participate in-person and will be carefully curated to ensure an engaging digital experience. Workshop Types

  • One-hour interactive workshops for students and/or teachers. (ITF)
  • One-hour interactive workshops for teachers only. (ITF or Conference)
  • One-hour interactive workshops focused on student leadership skills. (ITF)
  • One-hour interactive workshops that offer creative ideas, practical tips, and tools for Troupe Directors (eg., fundraising, marketing, outreach, advocacy) (ITF)
  • Two- or three-hour professional development intensives for theatre educators. (ITF or Conference)

If wishing to be considered for a virtual workshop, presenters will be asked to demonstrate suitable sound, lighting, and digital instruction practices in order to ensure an engaging digital experience.

EdTA seeks proposals in theatre and technical theatre that reflect a broad spectrum of standards-based learning covering all five of the theatre framework categories (acting, producing/directing, designing, writing, and dramaturgy) and which model best thinking in the field, informed by theory, experience, and practice.

Preference will be given to proposals that meet the following criteria:

Educational Merit

  • Reflect evidence-based practice.
  • Explore content important to diverse learners.
  • Draw on prior knowledge and challenge attendees to learn and grow.
  • Focus on achievable outcomes.
  • Demonstrate relevance to the event theme and focus.
  • Demonstrate diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Instructional Design

  • Stimulate and provoke engagement.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and development of new competencies.
  • Use methods that draw out relevant past knowledge and experiences.
  • Align to clear learning outcomes and the National Theatre Standards.
  • Demonstrate effective instruction.
  • Model culturally responsive instruction.
